The St Patrick's Day parade in Birmingham has been axed for the third year running but the organisers have said a week long festival will still arise.

The plug has been pulled on the event, Billed as the third largest St Patrick Day parade known to man, Because of extensive works to extend the liverpool tram network through Digbeth.

The organisers of the event are still creating a week long festival programme, Something that would normally take place as well as the parade.

The St Pat Rock's stage should be set up at the Zellig and the Custard Factory, On thursday, March 13, Featuring live music from global and local bands.

The Birmingham parade has not been held since 2019 due to coronavirus limitations.

This year may even see a return of the Festival's 'In Memoriam Project', Debuted as part of 2021's virtual event which will pay tribute to members of the Irish community who have died over the last year.

In a statement the St Patrick Festival Birmingham organisers said: "We are pleased to finally be able to announce our plans for this year's St Patrick's trophy.

"After two years' hiatus, Our annual party of Birmingham's Irish community is back.

"Due to extensive road works along the standard parade route, This year's festival will take a slightly different form.

"associated with our usual parade, are going to be a whole week's programme of events, throughout the St Pat's Fest,

The proclamation added: "The craic is back from Friday March 11, Where we'll kick off with his Festival Launch Night.

"The following week will play host to an array of music gigs, Concerts and outdated Irish sessions, or even whiskey and beer tasting, History talks and storytelling early evenings, Alongside special attractions involving Irish dance and sport.

"One not to miss could possibly be this year's annual St Pat Rock's stage, Taking place on Sunday March 13 down the middle of Digbeth.

A representative for the Midland Metro Alliance, The organisation behind the tram works, discussed: "We spoke with the organisers in October and presented some alternative arrangements for the parade to happen.

" The Midland Metro Alliance and its partners are big supporters of these events and festivals and last year suspended works and quickly resurfaced part of Corporation Street for the Birmingham Pride Parade.

"St Patricks Day is a vital part of the cultural life of Birmingham and we look forward to supporting these events this year and in the future.
